reflecting the long weekend

its crazy how a creative brief from direction a ended up shot and edited in direction z. would it not make proper sense to craft what a campaign stands for at the beginning, get the consensus right and brief the agency CORRECTLY rather than to do something based on one's personal agenda only to find yourself screwed when people on top don't think much of PSEUDO creative director's thoughts.

how something fun and sporty can evolve into stylish and premium is incomprehensible. then again, like what a planner once told her "we can only do what we can, anything shit that happens beyond our control, too bad, life goes on." what's funnier is how some top people can expect the unrealistic, thinking 300 copies of large sheet printing for outdoor mediums can be printed in less then 2 days and how an offline session can be tweaked simply by "drag and click"???? post and production houses should organise some "idiot's guide to advertising". now she understands why those outside the industry have common misconceptions that ad people are just "frivolous and full of BS". it only takes a few morons to spread the bad name.

anyhow, out with the negative thoughts.

it's been a good recuperating weekend so far after having working past midnight the past couple of months. it's gym day today (finally!), spent some good quality time with the folks and shoe shopping with the other half at pedros. it'll be pedicure late morning (her toes are falling out) and tea at marmalade with the ladies tomorrow. it's been a while since she had a life.

thank God for labour day.

fucked up day

on the eve of printing a fucking million copies of mailer, she gets a call to put things on hold cos some people still can't get their act together and decide on what they really want. and to think she spent an entire night tossing and turning, worrying bout how in hell was she going to get the final signoffs, printers and suppliers to deliver on time. guess all that rush was for nothing cos at the end of the day, it doesn't pay to be committed on the account.

no life day 1

day one of tv shoot today. call time for agency and client 8am.

lessons learnt?

- don't be stubborn, one NEEDS sunblock when running in open fields: result? BAD sunburn on nose and shoulders
- never show creatives to clients for approval under steaming temperatures. result? hot sticky weather = foul mood = 101 rejection comments
- caucasian extras on set are brilliant and expressive. result? unfortunately the set overran and their "expressive-ness" about a two hour delay was scary when more the half of the 70 extras threatened to walk off
- NEVER ever speak bad of the client unless you've cleared the "safe" zone. result? two seconds state of shock to find the client sitting on the grass patch right behind you after bitching. thank God for pseudonames.
- cater more food when having 70 caucasian extras on the set. result? production house apologised profusely when the extras polished off agency, client and crew's food too.
- always bring extra cash. result? client offered to buy agency lunch at a roadside coffeeshop BUT had no cash, so agency had to pick up the tab anyway....

nonetheless the shoot went pretty smooth today and all she needs to do for day two of shoot tomorrow is to pray for...
...sunny skies which will not get gloomy
...patient extras who would not grow weary
...brilliant talents who give perfect takes
...smiley clients who give FAST approvals and rational comments

petty gripes

the dreary work load's affected the lack of posts lately. hell she didn't even know how tired she was and for the first time in her life, slept in the entire day on good friday last thursday.

anyhow, had a petty episode last week and was totally peeved by the idiocy of straight laced do-ers and their inflexibilities...
she was fucking fined $5 for late timesheets. guess why she didn't have time to submit them on time? cos she was in the office from 8.30am-midnite mon-fri and at times weekends. with demanding and unnecessary work pressures right now, the last thing on her mind would be filling in the numbers at one am in the morning. she then nicely asked the timesheet people for an extension of an hour to complete but NO, they had to fine her anyway despite the submission. apparently three quarts of the agency who work their asses off later then 9pm on a daily basis were fined by the very people who leave at 6pm SHARP every fucking day. where's the logic in team spirit? oh whatever. but she kinda lost it when the "6pm" people refused to approve her calling cab claims during late nights. CBD is hell if you wanna catch a cab from 9-11ish pm so if we don't wanna fork the extra calling fee on our own, there're only two ways out. leave at 6pm or after midnight, where IS the choice really?

hard to blame people for not putting in 110% when they only receive only 80% most of the time.

people have to learn respect goes both ways man.

bad behaviour

please tell her how ANNOYING some typically rude singaporeans are in theatres.

was seated in front of this totally inconsiderate family who were basically, every theare buff's nightmare. the sort where they tempt you into wanting to beat the shit outta them. the formulae for being a theatre irritant?

first it had an overly excited mom who conveniently propped her knees against the back of people's chair and the entire session felt like some cheap automated rocking chair each time she laughed hysterically. the husband of hers was worse, mr pseudo producer decided to translate and repeat the entire narration to his wife and kids in mandarin. HELLO? its not like he's whispering cos at the rate he's voice was going, it's a sure thing surrounding rows could hear the family's conversation. she couldn't stand theatremorons and just had to turn round several times to STARE at the idiots seated behind, hopefully making a point despite the dark cos a vibrating seat just ain't do shit for her. FUCKING annoying. should've "accidentally" spilled the giant cup of coke or leftover nacho cheese onto them. where on earth do these people come from? nevertheless a lesson learnt; late night slots are the best cos that's when the morons are in bed already.

anyhow, am too tired now to load the pics of andrew and jan's place, will do it tomorrow! lovely it is : )

darkness beholds

is the world getting more chaotic?

are our personalities and psyches getting darker by the day?

would schizophrenia be as common as the flu bug come 2020?

the increase in psycho horror films over the past two years made her wonder if the popularity was a reflection of its society. how many disturbed people are there out there? how long will it take for them in cave in and run amok in public (not that its not happening now)? how long will it take for quiet leaders to explode and start terrorising others?

aren't we getting more impatient? everything is demanded on an instant turnaround. at work, shopping, eating and even leisure. clients want things NOW despite the human impossibilities, customers want INSTANT attention and food orders, people in queues pull sullen faces. is there something profoundly wrong with the way we are going?

random thoughts

she's been so fucking maxed out the past months to even think coherently out of work context.

some notable things:
1. the team's instant ability to order lunch for clients taking into consideration each person's allergies and tastes. eg smoked turkey on rye or loaf and no cranberry sauce nor dressing, or no walnuts in anything cos someone's allergic to it.
2. the ideal persona of a fairly new top management person who still believes in training the client despite witnessing the entire agency's jaded personality. there are some things you just can't change, and in the instance of her ex boss, if you can't beat them, join them. she and her other team mate have a good mind to just fuck it and leave.
3. to complete a big project and told to RE-DO it from scratch AGAIN (given similar delivery dates) cos some people at the top of the foodchain had differing views on humor?
4. coffee no longer works as her source of perk-me-up
5. found out some fluffy PA in the office having a major attitude cos the office auntie didn't want to do personal grocery shopping for her? like what's up with pulling ranks? if the ECD, CSD and financial controller can wash their own cups when auntie's busy vacuuming, she doesn't see why you as a PA can't do the same?
6. international dance competitions make damn solid entertainment. went for one over the weekend and boy, are the russians hot!
7. today's agenda: stiff neck, bloody major crisis, combing through ruffled feathers, cutting crap with some people.

how exciting.

or perhaps she should get a broken arm and extend over a months worth of mc.

man, she needs to fucking get away.
