M&C Saatchi has been appointed the global creative agency for the AU$60 million (US$45 million) Tourism Australia advertising account. M&C Saatchi Sydney will run the business internationally. The three short-listed agencies (M&C Saatchi, Saatchi & Saatchi and Clemenger BBDO) presented in Tokyo, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong and Auckland before final presentations to senior management and board representatives in Sydney in May. Tom Dery, executive chairman, Asia-Pacific, added that the agency would resign the Tourism New Zealand account.
Tourism NZ searching for new agency
Tourism New Zealand, from which M&C Saatchi resigned following the TA win, is meanwhile well along in the search for its new agency. Five agencies are believed to have been shortlisted, including TA incumbent Whybin\TBWA, Saatchi & Saatchi, FCB, DDB and at least one other smaller agency. Presentations are believed to be scheduled soon, with a decision not far off. M&C Saatchi also announced Carat would handle TA’s media duties.
